More than Raisin Brahms
I fixed the broken video for Raisin Brahms **snicker**
And found MORE! Eat your Van Goghurt.

(yes, I could not manage to post about something non-political. Sorry to get your hopes up!)
I love this site. All sorts of kids showing the love for Obama.
And this pic might be the most awesome ever:

I hardly ever ever ever want to be a kid again but this picture makes me reconsider. Maybe they will have the kind of country growing up that all kids deserve - one governed by a president who makes you want to be a better person.

So I was at Target buying shaving cream and other things as I do. And I see a new men's skincare/bodycare line:
Watch the following video carefully:
Yes, that's Super 8 footage of the Democratic convention. Does anyone else smell a little 1960s in the air? That's a powerful shorthand... really concentrating the sort of élan the Obama campaign has worked to create over the last two years.
This is from Poder Enterprise magazine. It's a Ford advertisement, featuring pictures of welders, large trucks rumbling around construction sites, and men nobly soiled through manual labor:
"Por favor, aprueben una ley que prohíba a quienes trabajan en un escritorio, usar la frase 'un día pesado en el trabajo.'"
My translation:
"Please pass a law to prevent desk jockeys from using the phrase 'a hard day at the office.'"
Babelfish says:
"Please, they approve a law that it prohibits to those who work in a writing-desk, to use the phrase 'a heavy day in trabajo.' "
What's the difference between a raven and a writing desk? Mucho, I guess.
This was one of my favorite student poems - easy to understand but also nuanced. I figure if service to Hispanic populations is part of the strategic plan I should be more diligent about practicing my Spanish. Maybe we'll start up a conversation club again!
Casas enfiladas, casas enfiladas,
casas enfiladas.
Cuadrados, cuadrados, cuadrados.
Casas enfiladas.
Las gentes ya tienen el alma cuadrada,
ideas en fila
y ángulo en la espalda.
Yo misma he vertido ayer una lágrima,
Dios mío, cuadrada.
~ Alfonsina Storni
Houses in a line, houses in a line,
houses in a line.
They're square, square, square.
Houses in a line.
Already, people have square souls
they think in lines
and angled are their shoulders.
Yesterday I myself shed a tear -
Oh god, it was square.

Perhaps Alfonsina was thinking of this song, which has been in my head for, like, two weeks now.
This ad actually makes me associate Obama with messengers sent by God, the manliness of Charlton Heston, and inspirational leaders. Thanks, GOP. You're doing a heck of a job. Please produce more videos like this. (The answer to the question at the end of the spot came easily to me.)
